Our guest this week is Allan Clarke-  renowned British musician best known as the lead vocalist of the iconic rock band, The Hollies.

With a distinctive tenor voice and charismatic stage presence, Allan played a pivotal role in shaping the band’s sound and success during the 1960s and 1970s.

His musical journey began in the early 1960s when he formed The Hollies alongside childhood friends Graham Nash, Eric Haydock, Tony Hicks, and Don Rathbone. The band quickly rose to prominence with a string of hit singles, including classics like “Bus Stop,” “Carrie Anne,” and “He Ain’t Heavy, He’s My Brother.”

Allan’s soulful and emotive vocals became synonymous with The Hollies’ signature sound, earning them a dedicated global fan base.

Known for his songwriting prowess, Allan Clarke co-wrote several of The Hollies’ hits, showcasing his ability to craft melodic and timeless tunes.

His collaboration with Nash and Hicks yielded enduring songs that continue to resonate with audiences across generations.

In 1971, Allan Clarke briefly left The Hollies to pursue a solo career, releasing albums like “My Real Name Is ‘Arold” and “Headroom.” Despite his solo endeavours, Allan rejoined The Hollies in 1973, contributing to the band’s continued success with hits like “The Air That I Breathe.”

Beyond his musical accomplishments, Clarke’s enigmatic stage persona and distinct vocal style have left an indelible mark on the rock music landscape. His influence extends far beyond The Hollies’ heyday, with the band’s legacy and Clarke’s contributions celebrated in the annals of rock history.

He has recently released a new album – fulfilling a long time dream to collaborate again with Graham Nash.

The album comes after he, his wife and his daughter all battled with cancer and as a result, finds Allan unable to hit the high notes that he’s become so famous for.

Determined to continue doing what he loves, Allan has penned many of the tracks on this album so that he’s able to sing in a lower key. The result is simply stunning.

I am excited to have Allan Clarke in conversation sharing stories from his incredible musical journey.
