Musician John McEuen is best known as a founding member of The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band (NGDB), a pioneering country and folk-rock band formed in 1966. With his multi-instrumental talents, including banjo, guitar, mandolin, and fiddle, John contributed significantly to the band’s signature sound.

The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band’s breakthrough came with their 1970 album “Uncle Charlie & His Dog Teddy,” featuring the iconic cover of Jerry Jeff Walker’s “Mr. Bojangles,” which became one of their most recognisable hits. Throughout the decades, The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band experienced several line-up changes, but John McEuen remained a constant driving force behind their success. The band’s versatility and innovative approach to music led to their induction into the Colorado Music Hall of Fame in 2015.

John’s solo career has also been marked by numerous accomplishments. He has released several solo albums showcasing his instrumental prowess and song writing skills. Additionally, he has collaborated with a diverse range of artists, including Earl Scruggs, Dolly Parton, and his long-time friend, Steve Martin.

John is an accomplished author, producer, and documentary filmmaker. His book, “The Life I’ve Picked: A Banjo Player’s Nitty Gritty Journey,” offers insights into his career and the evolution of American roots music.

This week John is our special guest. He details his incredible journey and excitedly tells us about his latest offering – a spoken word album called “The Newsman: A Man of Record.”
