On the next Rules Free Radio with Steve Caplan, in the second hour, we’ll remember lyricist Keith Reid whose poetic lyrics are heard in the music of Procol Harum including their classic, Whiter Shade of Pale. Before and after we’ll hear a lot of new releases with some classics sprinkled in. There is a new album by Depeche Mode, The Nude Party, singer-songwriter Caroline Rose, Linda Smith & Nancy Andrews, The Reds, Pinks and Purples, Hollie Kenniff, Downpilot, Kate Davis, Crickle, and a bunch of others including some great new Jazz releases that we’ll hear in the last set. Classics from Annie Lennox, The dB’s, Paul Carrack, Cat Stevens, Icehouse, Jules Shear, Cocktail Slippers, and a few more. We’ll hear a new recording of the War classic, The World Is a Ghetto, as done by Billy Valentine and The Universal Truth.

On this week’s Rules Free Radio with Steve Caplan, we’ll do a tribute to a giant in the music business that we recently lost. Seymour Stein was the founder of Sire Records. He is responsible for signing then-unknown artists who would go on to have massive success and become staples of Rock and Pop music. The long list of artists he signed includes The Ramones, Talking Heads, The Pretenders, The English Beat, Blondie, The Smiths, and perhaps the biggest of them all, Madonna. That’s in the second hour.

Ryuichi Sakamoto passed away at the age of 71. He was a composer, pianist, synthesizer player, and producer who was a member of the influential techno band Yellow Magic Orchestra. Sakamoto scored many films including director Bernardo Bertolucci’s The Last Emporer for which Sakamoto won the Academy Award for Best Original Score. His music and collaborations included pop artists from David Sylvian to Cyndi Lauper. We’ll hear a good helping of music he was involved with along with other music to complement his.

And the new releases just keep on coming. So this first hour we’re going to sample some of those including The Beths, The No Ones, Boygenius, Star Collector, Sunbirds, The New Pornographers, Damien Jurado, Altin Gun, and others.
