From Memphis to Merseyside Ep 24 ‘Country Rock’ Part 1

When Elvis Presley recorded ‘That’s All Right, Mama’ and ‘Blue Moon of Kentucky’ in 1954, the musical landscape was changed forever. Blending rhythm and blues with elements of country music, what Presley captured that day was something new and exciting. A slew of other artists followed in his footsteps, including Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis and many more. The result was some fantastic music in the 1950s and 60s. On this episode of ‘From Memphis to Merseyside’ we’re taking a look at what some have called rockabilly, and others have termed country-rock. This is the first of a two part series, and we hope you enjoy today’s playlist!
