Today, we celebrate David Lynch’s most seminal movie, Wild at Heart. Our new selection more or less mirrors the original soundtrack, offering sixteen tales of love, fear and madness. The mix starts with Connie Francis For Every Young Heart, a wonderful tune from the 1963 comedy Follow the Boys (featuring none less than a young Russ Tamblyn). From there it continues with some Rhythm & Blues and Rock & Roll classics, a cover of Johnny Cash Folsom Prison Blues by Firewater, Scout Niblettís acapella ditty ìLulaî, and the aptly titled Bad for Bobby by Big Sexy Noise, a great Lydia Lunch/Terry Edwards (of Gallon Drunk fame) side-project. Lets also mention Treat Her Right I Think She Likes Me, heard during one of the WaHís deleted scenes, or the brooding Far Away Chant by African Head Charge, hidden in the movies soundtrack during Grace Zabriskieís unnerving appearance. We also pay homage to Ornette Coleman with Mugwumps, one of the tracks he composed in collaboration with Howard Shore for the Naked Lunch score. We close this mix with Joe Henrys elegant interpretation of Aura Lee, the traditional American Civil War song that inspired Love Me Tender.
